Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
My rating 5 out of 5 stars.
Every Other Day sucked me in right from the first page. I knew I would like this book and I did. The pretty cover was the added bonus.
Kali is a half Indian and half Italian 16 year old who is human one day and something else the other. Strange things start happening around her leading us to the revelations of all the mysteries surrounding her and her ‘condition’. The exotic heroine was a great change as one does not come across mixed raced heroines often in YA.Kali has got an interesting voice not snarky not boring but just right. She is exactly the way she should be, confused, angry, needy and well a ‘Teen’.Even after what she is going through she is not whinny and know what she wants. She has a no nonsense attitude which I loved. She was kick-ass but just wanted to be left alone.
Some of the side characters I found annoying but slowly they grow on you. I could see a love angle developing and I hope the author continues to do so as love angle always perks my interest. I loved Zev and the concept of his character.I can’t wait to see where the author will take it. This book had a great take on all the fantasy creatures like chupacabras, zombies, dragons, yeti, vampire, etc., etc. It was a fun read. The action was non stop and the various twists and turns kept coming when you thought the author possibly could not have more in store for you.
Fans of Vampire Academy and Maximum Ride would enjoy this. Hopefully this is going to be turned into a series because as soon as I finished it I wanted more. Highly recommended. It's is coming out in December.
