I had bought lots of books in the last month so I did not buy any new books. However, I have been incredibly lucky and received really good ARCs for reviewing.

The Prophet (The Graveyard Queen # 3) By Amanda Stevens
My name is Amelia Gray.
I am the Graveyard Queen, a cemetery restorer who sees ghosts. My father passed down four rules to keep me safe and I’ve broken every last one. A door has opened and evil wants me back.
In order to protect myself, I’ve vowed to return to those rules. But the ghost of a murdered cop needs my help to find his killer. The clues lead me to the dark side of Charleston—where witchcraft, root doctors and black magic still flourish—and back to John Devlin, a haunted police detective I should only love from afar.
Now I’m faced with a terrible choice: follow the rules or follow my heart.

When I got accepted for this ARC I was surprised as I have yet to read the first two books in this trilogy. I have heard some great things about this series. I know what to expect and I am sure I will not be disappointed.

Ember ( Darkest London #0.5) by Kristen Callihan
This ebook-exclusive short story is a prequel to Firelight and will appeal to fans of New York Times bestselling authors Amanda Quick, Gail Carriger, and Hannah Howell.
After a fire consumes the Ellis family fortune, the beautiful and resourceful Miranda finds herself faced with an impossible dilemma: enter a life of petty crime or watch her family succumb to poverty. But once her fiancée learns of her descent into danger--and of the strange, new powers she's discovered --saving her family may come at the high price of her heart.

When Lord Benjamin Archer's one chance for redemption is destroyed by corrupt London antiquarian Hector Ellis, he vows to take what Ellis values most-his daughter Miranda. Forced to hide his face behind masks, Archer travels the world hoping to escape the curse that plagues him so that he can finally claim his prize.

But once Archer returns home to London, will it be revenge he seeks? Or will the flame-haired beauty ignite new, undeniable desires?

I had read Firelight and it has been my favorite book this year. Read my review here. Hence, when its prequel came out I could hardly stop myself from reading it straight away. I will be posting my review soon.

The Last Beginning(Curse of the Phoenix #3) by Rachel Firasek
Though she's always hated being a phoenix, Sadie has to admit immortality has its advantages. She's seen and done more in the last 150 years than she'd ever dreamed of, but she can't get past the fact that Osiris has done nothing but manipulate her and her fellow phoenixes.

Or that, when her last incarnation as a phoenix comes to a fiery end, the fire slowly begins to consume her body.

Sun god Osiris is ashamed of his role as ruler of the Underworld, but he unless he can figure out how to save Sadie, that's exactly where she's going to end up. Permanently. Terrified he's going to lose her, he takes her on a hunt for The Book of the Dead, which is the only way he knows he can save her-even if it means she'll hate him forever.

This is the third book in a Paranormal Romance series. I have not read the first two books but the premise for this sounds interesting enough that I may give this a go.

What books have you got which has got you raving this week?

Feature & Follow # 2

This is a feature hosted by Para-Junkee and Alison can Read. They have been awesome and this feature allows to meet new book bloggers and book fans spread all over the Land of Internet.

Q: DEFINE WHAT CHARACTERISTICS YOUR FAVORITE BOOKS SHARE. Every time she closes her eyes, Reyes Farrow, the part-human, part-supermodel son of Satan, is there. Only thing is, he’s a tad peeved. She did bind him for all eternity, so it’s hard blame him. But 13 days without a wink is bound to bring out the crazy in a girl. So, when a man hires her to find his wife, Charley accepts the job with one goal in mind: Put the man behind bars, and not the wet kind. She can sense the guilt waft off him and vows to find the woman’s body and prove he’s a murderer.

In the meantime, Reyes is back in prison and none too happy about it . . . so Charley thinks, until she is carjacked by the dark-haired rake, who swears the very man he went to prison for killing is not only alive, but close by. And he wants Charley to find him.

While a visit to her old friend Rocket sheds no light on Reyes’s situation, Charley finds out the man’s wife is still alive and time is running out. Finding her before she dies would be a miracle, but she has to try. Together with the help of a fashion-impaired receptionist named Cookie, Charley sets out to bring the bad guys to justice. She just hopes Reyes is not one of them. And that she’s not hallucinating from her self-induced bout with insomnia.

I love the Charley Davidson series and I am really looking forward towards reading this. Some of my fellow blogger friends have given this very high rating so I am sure I am going to love this too. When I read something by Darynda Jones I am sure that guaranteed a fun read.Reyes is just the icing on the cake.

Fifty Shades Freed (Fifty Shades #3)
by E.L. James
When unworldly student Ana Steele first encountered the driven, damaged young entrepreneur Christian Grey it sparked a sensual affair that changed both their lives irrevocably. Shocked, intrigued, and ultimately repelled by Christian’s singular sexual tastes, Ana demanded a deeper commitment; determined to keep her, Christian agreed.

Now, together, they have more – love, passion, intimacy, and a world of infinite possibilities. But Ana always knew that loving her Fifty Shades would not be easy, and being together poses challenges neither of them ever anticipated. Ana must somehow learn to share Christian’s opulent lifestyle without sacrificing her own integrity, identity or independence; Christian must somehow overcome his compulsion to control, and lay to rest the horrors that blighted his past and haunt his present.

Just when it seems that together their love can conquer any obstacle, misfortune, malice and fate combine to make Ana’s worst nightmares come true. Alone and desperate, she must face down the poisoned legacy of Christian’s past.

Whoever has read the previous books and loved them, has been looking forward to the final book in this trilogy. Fifty Shades Freed will most likely end the torment through which Christian goes through each day.Hopefully he finally heals and has a HEA. Moreover, the love scenes would be terrific to read too, as it is erotica even if it a more romance than erotica.

Review : Angelfall (Penryn & the End of Days #1) by Susan Ee

My ratings: 5 out of 5 stars
Ireally must have been living in a hole. Seriously, why did I never pick this book before? I had no idea what I was missing .When I started this I never thought I would be drawn in this wonderful , exciting world of Penryn and Raffe. The world building was intricate, the characters well developed, the plot faultless. I started this before going to bed and could not stop. There have been very few books which can make me stay up all night and this did. I finished this at 5 am and was ready to re-read again then and there.
It has been 6 weeks since Angels invaded the modern world changing it forever. Countless people have died and numerous more dying. The future of the world is uncertain. Penryn is trying to survive her with her mother and her wheel-chair bound sister when she witnesses an attack on a lone angel. His wings are ripped away and when Penryn manages to help him her sister is kidnapped. Now she has to team up with the injured Angel with an attitude and to get her sister back. The story is so simple yet the writing is what gives it so much depth. Not once was I bored or lost interest in the plot. Amazingly the characters never wavered from their personalities, which is very unusual for a YA.
I cannot express how pleased I was with this book. Finding great books is what makes reading them such an experience. The story was fast paced and interesting. The dialogues were great and they certainly benefitted from the touch of dry humor. There are many Angel/Nephelim stories found in the YA aisle but what makes it different is the treatment. The background is well researched and Ee seems to know what she is talking about.
Penryn – I love that name. That alone for me is worth reading the book. She is strong, courageous and level headed. Not once did I want to scream at her or want to shake her. She reminded me of Katniss from The Hunger Games. Raffe on the other hand ….sigh…all I can say is that I have got a new addition to my Fictional BF harem. He is mysterious and totally bad ass.
Some readers have mentioned their dislike of the ending but it did not bother me. I loved every minute of the experience. The ending was so touching it brought tears to my eyes. I felt so sorry for him. And just that makes me want the book straight away. If all Dystopian books are anything like this then it may just become my favorite genre. It feels like it has spoiled other books for me. There are so many things I want to talk about but I don’t think I want this review to be a mile long.
For those who haven’t read this, what are you waiting for? Grab this now or you will regret it later.

Cover Lover

This is a new topic that I have started on which I will post any new covers that are exciting or which may be interesting.

The last month saw many covers being released, however I will only post a couple.Jeaniene Frost pasted the new cover for Vlad's book. I am not sure how I feel about the cover but the guy on it is hot hot hot.I am a massive fan of her Night Huntress series and really curious about this new addition to the Night Huntress World series.

She’s a mortal with dark powers…

After a tragic accident scarred her body and destroyed her dreams, Leila never imagined that the worst was still to come: terrifying powers that let her channel electricity and learn a person’s darkest secrets through a single touch. Vlad’s ability to control fire makes him one of the most feared vampires in existence, but his enemies have found a new weapon against him – a beautiful mortal with powers to match his own. When Vlad and Leila meet, however, passion ignites between them, threatening to consume them both. It will take everything that they are to stop an enemy intent on bringing them down in flames.
This is releasing in June this year.

Next came out the cover for Chasing Magic.I am really excited for this as not only will we have the fourth book, Sacrificial Magic, from the Downside Series but also the fifth, Chasing Magic. The cover was released this week too.

A DEADLY HIGH

Magic-wielding Churchwitch and secret addict Chess Putnam knows better than anyone just how high a price people are willing to pay for a chemical rush. But when someone with money to burn and a penchant for black magic starts tampering with Downside’s drug supply, Chess realizes that the unlucky customers are paying with their souls—and taking the innocent with them, as the magic-infused speed compels them to kill in the most gruesome ways possible.

As if the streets weren’t scary enough, the looming war between the two men in her life explodes, taking even more casualties and putting Chess squarely in the middle. Downside could become a literal ghost town if Chess doesn’t find a way to stop both the war and the dark wave of death-magic, and the only way to do that is to use both her addiction and her power to enter the spell and chase the magic all the way back to its malevolent source. Too bad that doing so will probably kill Chess—if the war doesn’t first destroy the man who’s become her reason for living.

The book cover keeps in line with the fourth cover which is nice but I am not so sure about the model.I really liked the American covers for Unholy Ghosts and all the U.K covers were nice too. Now that they have changed the model I wonder if we will get the same model or the American.

Review: Fate's Edge (Edge #3) by Ilona Andrews

My ratings: 4 out of 5 stars
Ilona Andrews did it again. They write wonderful stories that captivate your imagination and flutter your heart. Fate’s edge is the third book in their Edge series. In this edition they manage to pull it off again. Their writing is s great mix of humor and action and I am a massive fan of their Kate Daniels series.
Kaldhar was introduced in Bayou Moon as Cerise’s cousin. I had found him interesting then and was looking towards reading this book. I mean I love the Alpha males found abundant in the land of Urban Fantasy. But I love the charming, clever friend of Alpha males too. They don’t roar or shout. They just talk, look pretty and make you lust after them. Kaldhar is one of these men. He is sneaky, wicked and ticks just the right boxes. Audrey is the perfect girl for him and they were match with each other. They had great chemistry and I had a good time watching them falling in love. I also liked the fantasy plot line which was exciting and fun.
After all the praises it is only fair that I also point what I did not like. It ended too quickly which has been mentioned by a few readers. It did not bother me too much. What I felt was as though the story had been edited to meet the word count. The climax was short and the middle bit seemed liked it had been dragged.
Regardless, I still love Ilona Andrews and would read anything being written by them.

In my Mailbox (1)

This week I received lots of ARCs and am I am really excited to start reading. The ones I am most excited about are listed below.

Callie lost her parents when the Spore Wars wiped out everyone between the ages of twenty and sixty. She and her little brother, Tyler, go on the run, living as squatters with their friend Michael and fighting off renegades who would kill them for a cookie. Callie's only hope is Prime Destinations, a disturbing place in Beverly Hills run by a mysterious figure known as the Old Man. He hires teens to rent their bodies to Enders—seniors who want to be young again. Callie, desperate for the money that will keep her, Tyler, and Michael alive, agrees to be a donor. But the neurochip they place in Callie's head malfunctions and she wakes up in the life of her renter, living in her mansion, driving her cars, and going out with a senator's grandson.
It feels almost like a fairy tale, until Callie discovers that her renter intends to do more than party—and that Prime Destinations' plans are more evil than Callie could ever have imagined. . . .
Isn’t the cover gorgeous?I love the whole white and blue thing that is going on and the blurb sounds really interesting. The comparison to The Hunger Games sold me.

Deep in the shadowy foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains lies a dying town…
My name is Amelia Gray. They call me The Graveyard Queen. I’ve been commissioned to restore an old cemetery in Asher Falls, South Carolina, but I’m coming to think I have another purpose here.
Why is there a cemetery at the bottom of Bell Lake? Why am I drawn time and again to a hidden grave I’ve discovered in the woods? Something is eating away at the soul of this town—this withering kingdom—and it will
only be restored if I can uncover the truth.
I had read so many good reviews about the first book, The Grave Restorer, but never got the chance to read it.Now that I have received an ARC for The Kingdom I am going to give it a try. It is going to be spooky and scary.

This feature Is hosted by The Story Siren every week.

Feature & Follow # 1

From now on I will be participating in a new feature hosted by Para-Junkee and Alison can Read. They have been awesome and this feature allows to meet new book bloggers and book fans spread all over the Land of Internet.

Which book genre do you avoid at all costs and why?

I have never been keen on autobiographies.I read fiction as it takes me to a world made up in someone's imagination. What an experience I have had. Kristen Callihan has built a brand new world which is both exciting and wonderful. When I requested it on Netgalley I had no idea I would have found such a gem.
All my friends know about my love for UF and Historical romances. This book had encompassed both my love for these two great genres. At the beginning I wasn’t so sure how this would turn-out to be. It could have gone either way .So I started it with low expectations and I am so glad that I was wrong.
Miranda is a beautiful red-head who can produce fire spontaneously. She is struggling to make ends meet living with her father. In comes this enigmatic Lord who offers to pay all her debts if she marries him. Without any choice, she agrees to the union. How bad can it really be married to a man she did not love. Here is what the catch is. Lord Archer has a secret. He hides his face in a mask. He is this mysterious, enigma hiding his face in a mask and no one knows what he is up to or he thinks. She doesn’t know what’s going on in his head. She is married to this person who talks to her, stimulates her mind. Whom she even calls her friend but she hasn’t even seen his face. The sexual tension was staggering. What was Archer hiding? What did he look like? Why did he hide his face? These questions were not only driving Miranda mad, but were also making me crazy. I stayed up to the wee hours of the night trying to figure out the mystery.
The prologue was very nicely done. It piqued my interest in the book. The writing was fantastic. I was blown away by the complexity and the descriptive nature of the writing. It described London in the olden days perfectly .It felt like I was present there, walking on the cobbled stones and smelling the different smells wafting from the street. I loved Miranda. She was fiery, quite literally, and sane. Stupid heroines in romances are so common that I want to shoot them one by one but here Miranda was just right. She would give any Urban Fantasy heroine run for her money in the kick-ass department.
Archer, oh my! He is a perfect tortured hero. I was in love with him just half way through the prologue. The curse that torments him makes him believe he is not worth Miranda. Even though we don’t see his face in most of the book we all know he is all hotness and desire packing some serious romantic hero.
I can go on and on but how much I liked this book but that would take me all night. If you a UF fans and like Paranormal Romance or Historical this book is just right for you. Even if you are not,….read it anyway as I am sure you will not be disappointed cannot wait for the second book Moonlight.
ARC provided by NetGalley.

Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul #1) by C.L. Some of my reliable GR friends thought that that this was amazing and they loved the heroine too. All the shining gold plated reviews made me think-‘Ah’ finally a book which will not disappoint me.

I am not sure if it was my high expectations or that I am jaded and bitter, this book did not do it for me. The story felt fairy-tale like to me. The characters did not pop out to me and no matter how hard I tried I could not understand why I was reading it. I mean there was a story line but nothing really came out of it. Now you will ask me then why do I read Historical romances. Well, at least I get to see the hero and the heroine ending up together. On the other hand, I am not so sure about his book. I simply could not feel the magic of the romance. I could not feel their growing feelings for each other. It could not capture me as it had others. I read it though, even if I had to skip a few bits as the story felt like it was being told to me rather than letting me find it through the dialogues between the characters. I was waiting for something big to happen at the end with all the trouble the villain was going through but it felt anticlimactic to me.

The only thing I liked was the 4 warriors who were protecting Elly. They were funny and cute. I am surprised and sad to say the least as I like historical setting and fantasy spun with romance sounds like the ideal book for me. Perhaps if I had read these 5 years ago I would have fallen in love with it.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://escapismfromreality.blogspot.com/2012/01/lord-of-fading-lands-tairen-soul-1-by.html' title='Lord of the Fading Lands (Tairen Soul #1) by C.L. It all started as everybody started reading this at the same time making me wonder what the fuss is all about until I read it myself. Without going into the premise I can say that I was delighted to have read this. Considering the fact that this series had it roosts as a Twilight Fan Fiction it certainly has left it far behind. There are vague similarities namely the colour of the main lead’s hair and that is where it ends. E.L. James takes you on a journey of discovery, lust, wonder and love. Ana’s innocence was fresh and fun to read. She was a good narrator and asked the right questions. Regardless of popular belief, she had brains even if she followed her heart. Saying this I did find her annoying when she goes ‘Oh he is so hot!’

Moving on I will talk about the main character on which this story is based. Christian Grey. Right now I don’t even know where to start. All I can say that you have to read this book to find out more about him. Personally I was simply intrigued by this weird, odd character that was liquid and would change without a moment’s notice. However as I read on I fell in love with him as did Ana. I mean how can you not? The writing is so good that you feel every emotion of the characters and you can’t stop. You want more Christian Grey again and again. It is addictive. Fifty shades Darker was so sweet and a few scenes were heart breaking.

For those who do not know let me warn you this is erotica. It has BDSM scenes which may make you uncomfortable hence my reluctance to pick this series. I am glad that it was light on this theme and the smut was scorching hot. Some reader compared Christian to a vibrator which I suppose is a compliment. The first book itself has 15 sex scenes, not that I was counting. Some lines in the story reminded me of YA but c’mon guys you have to give it some slack.

So for those who haven’t read this, please do give this a try. You can only hate it or love it like I did. The first book was very interesting but the second one was achingly sweet sometimes. I loved this series but that does not mean that I will start reading erotica from now on. At this point I only want the third and last book, Fifty Shades Freed. As I said it was delightful.

ARC Review - Blood Rights (House of Comarré, #1) by Kristen Painter

My Ratings :4 out of 5 stars..
Blood Rights is the first in the trilogy of House of Comarre. It has a kick ass heroine, a tortured hero complete with funny side-kicks and a truly twisted and utterly evil villain, set up a new world with new supernatural creatures, vampires and comarres. All this comes in this pretty little package with a beautiful cover. The heroine Chrysabelle is a comarre which basically is a vampire's slave girl with special blood who only gives blood to his or her Patron .She is accused of murdering her patron for which she flees and falls in the lap of our prickly hero, who has his own ghosts from the past .Mal has is an Anathema who has been discarded from the Vampire world. He is a cursed soul who suffers from it every minute that he breathes. The book started of quite mediocre for me. The world building took some time and I kept getting confused, however about one- third of the way it started getting interesting .As you read on you realize Malkolm or Mal is truly a tortured hero. Chrysabelle was fine too but personally for me Fiona or Fi totally stole the show .She was funny, witty and brought a streak of fun to the rather serious storyline. Furthermore, I wasn't interested in the villain Tatiana's POV .It slowed the story and distracted from the main agenda. It was turning out to be a 3 star book to me until the last few pages. The twists and turns thrown in by the author could not have been seen afar and it made me sit up. They took me completely by surprize and delighted me. So, if you are a fan of UF or just want to feed your need for tortured heros give this book a try .Plus the pretty cover looks amazing on your shelf. The best bit is that you don't have to wait years for the rest of the books to release. They hit the shelves this year so keep an eye on them. It had a total of 5 POV where only 2 POv would suffice.
Regardless, I still liked this book and urge readers to perhaps give this a chance as this a new style in the otherwise saturated YA book market.

ARC provided by NetGalley

The Heart of a Druid Laird by Barbara Longley

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; This book came so close to 5 stars and then half-way through it all went pear-shaped.
I don't know how to write this review and complain without giving spoilers but it just seemed the Ms Mead was cutting corners with the story.Or perhaps it could be down to the fact that I am reading YA with an adults point of view.don't get me wrong as I love Ms Mead's other series and VA but it just seems this book could have epic but fell flat on it back.

Saying all this I am still going to read more Richelle Mead and start the spin-off of VA, Bloodlines soon.

Contact Me

Need to Contact me?. Luc Louvat is a Norman Knight sent by King William to capture the lands of Wolfridge little does he knows that it is being defended by none other than Ceara, the princess of Wolfridge after the death of her father. Circumstances throws these two together making them clash as both have twisted pasts which makes it really hard for them to open up to each other. The fact that they were enemies keeps getting in their way. It was frustrating to see both of them going back and forth so much. However it made their final union all the more sweet. This story was not just about two people falling in love. It was how they got over the fact that they were enemies who had very different point of view coming together and trust each other with love.

I read a medieval romance after a long time so it took a bit of getting used to the language and the rough handling of the heroine by the hero. But it was alright later as this was what was acceptable before and as I read more about Luc I did not mind it as much. My favourite character turned out to be Sheba. She was adorable. Can I please, please have a pet wolf too?

I would recommend it to all Medieval Romance fans.

ARC provided by NetGalley.

Every Other Day by Jennifer Lynn Barnes

My rating 5 out of 5 stars.
Every Other Day sucked me in right from the first page. I knew I would like this book and I did. The pretty cover was the added bonus.

Kali is a half Indian and half Italian 16 year old who is human one day and something else the other. Strange things start happening around her leading us to the revelations of all the mysteries surrounding her and her ‘condition’. The exotic heroine was a great change as one does not come across mixed raced heroines often in YA.Kali has got an interesting voice not snarky not boring but just right. She is exactly the way she should be, confused, angry, needy and well a ‘Teen’.Even after what she is going through she is not whinny and know what she wants. She has a no nonsense attitude which I loved. She was kick-ass but just wanted to be left alone.

Some of the side characters I found annoying but slowly they grow on you. I could see a love angle developing and I hope the author continues to do so as love angle always perks my interest. I loved Zev and the concept of his character.I can’t wait to see where the author will take it. This book had a great take on all the fantasy creatures like chupacabras, zombies, dragons, yeti, vampire, etc., etc. It was a fun read. The action was non stop and the various twists and turns kept coming when you thought the author possibly could not have more in store for you.

Fans of Vampire Academy and Maximum Ride would enjoy this. Hopefully this is going to be turned into a series because as soon as I finished it I wanted more. Highly recommended. It's is coming out in December.

ARC provided by NetGalley

The Demon Lover by Juliet Dark

My ratings : 4 out of 5 stars.
When I received the copy of this book I was really excited as I loved the cover. To be honest I had requested this book due to its pretty cover and the title. I have had a soft spot for story lines like this and was quite intrigued had read a few reviews so far which had left me with mixed feelings.

Ok, so let’s start with the story line. Callie is offered a job in upstate NY, as a professor at Fairwick. It is not her ideal choice but for some reason she accepts it. She has had these dreams about a prince but as soon as she started living in the new town her dream prince appears more often in her dreams. Eventually she starts having dream sex with this incorpeal being time after time. Later she realises that she was doing things with an Incubus. Hence our story starts. This story has such a Gothic feeling to it. You can see the Gothic influences in the writing as you go on, which made it a refreshing, read for me. The setting was great. It was cold and dreary, perfect to snuggle in a sofa with a cup of tea. The descriptions were great which added to the gothic atmosphere.

The started out rather slow, at which point I was about to give up and then about a third through the book the story became really interesting. As it moved on I could not help but compare Callie’s helplessness to the gothic heroines she was reading about all the time. Callie’s naivety was a surprise for me as she was 26 and had seen a lot of the world but it was endearing. Apart from that I could not feel her. She was there and actually narrating the story but her personality did not come across. I wanted to know more about what she was feeling and what she was made off.

It had many interesting characters, but at times it was hard to keep track of them. I had to try and flip back a few times, which is not an easy task while reading on a Kindle. Even if I loved the story, the setting and the writing, I do a few complaints with it. It is being advertised as a Paranormal romance in some places, there wasn’t much romance in it. This perhaps could have because of Callie. She seemed boring sometimes and incapable of expressing her feelings.

Finally what really bothered me was the ending. The main story line ended at about 90% of the book but the rest seemed like a massive epilogue. Plus I hated the way it ended. I had come to like this character even more so than Callie herself. I was sad to see him go. I had even managed to guess the ‘mystery’ from miles away (doesn’t happen very often).

This book has been very hard to rate as it started off slowly and then it was hard to put down and then the ending was anticlimactic. Finally I decided to rate it on how much I enjoyed it, which would have given it 5 stars but the ending took off one big shining star. I can gain solace through the fact that this is going to be a three part series. So I am hoping that Juliet Dark manages to redeem herself with the later book by showing us more of Callie.

Loved the book and the settings but the plot itself could have been slightly better. I love the concept of a dream lover materialising which sounds totally 'toe-curlingly romantic' to me. I would be eagerly anticipating the rest of the books in this series.

ARC provided by NetGalley.

Always a Princess by Alice Gaines

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
After reading this book in 24 hours I have to say I really enjoyed it. The available blurb made it sound cheesy and common. I would have to agree that yes the story was slightly common, nothing new in the saturated historical romance genre. However I have to add that how the author handles the story is what makes the difference, turning it into a good experience for the readers.

Phillip, Lord Wesley, is a bored aristocrat who has taken up stealing jewels to chase away his boredom. One night he encounters Eve Stanhope, who is parading as a Princess to conveniently rob the rich. See, the story is not all that inspiring but I enjoyed it immensely. This was not love at first sight but a slow process of finding each other interesting and slowly falling in love without realising what exactly is happening. The dialogues were laugh-out-loud, reminiscent of Julia Quinn. The characters were loveable and felt I could easily understand them. None of them had any tortured past or issues, which was good as it would have darkened the atmosphere quite a bit.

The heroine was head strong and world weary. Eve had seen the world and its hardship and was determined to make a better life for herself. Phillip on the other hand was funny. He was someone I would call a Beta Hero, who had a laid back attitude and as society used to call him slightly ‘odd’. Still it did not put me off him. Instead it just endeared him to me. Without giving out spoilers, I would like to mention a scene where he drunk and instead of being angry like most romance heroes become when drunk he was cute. I also have to put in an honourable mention of Long Tom. I wanted to give him a hug and feed him cookies (not Long Tom, but Phillip I mean).

What some reader may not like is that some scenes end abruptly. I have seen this type of writing before and it doesn’t bother me. Moreover, it reduces fillers which is always an added bonus for me. On the other hand what I found slightly discerning was the sex. I mean it was great and sexy but it was slightly strange that they went from innocent sex to full on blowjob by the third time they did it.

Nevertheless, I rate books on how much I enjoyed reading it, hence the 4 stars. I would definitely recommend Always a Princess to anyone who is looking for some light historical romance like the fans of Julia Quinn.

ARC provided by NetGalley.

Star Crossed Seduction (Astrology#2) by Jenny Brown

My rating : 3 out of 5 stars.
Star – Crossed Seduction is the second book in the Astrology series by Jenny Brown. It has a unique concept of a romance novel based around astrology.I always have had a curious interest in astrology so I was keen to start reading this book. The previous book in this series has received good reviews too.

Captain Miles Trevelyan has just returned from his service from India when he meets pick- pocket Temperance Smith. He catches her red handed and thus our story begins. This story is based around Scorpios, who are well known for their lust and suspicious nature. I would have to give it to the author that she played with their inhereant natures , intertwining it well with the story. The astrology was subtle and not in your face which was a plus. It was quite unusual for me to read a historical where the characters are not from the aristocracy. Moreover the female was from the streets.

It started out well but halfway through, I lost interest. The characters just seemed to so suspicious of each other all the time and it hindered in the progression of the story. It just seemed that even after their happily ever after they would never be able to trust. Another point that bothered me was I knew well enough that Scorpios do sometimes like excessive sex, but it just did not come across as such. The sex scenes seemed a bit damp and prose-like (which might be appealing to some readers).

Moreover, the author put in a lot of references about Colonial India which was great but being an Indian myself I found few of them bothering me. For example, Trev kept saying that he was speaking Hindustani, which literally mean ‘Indian’. So basically he is calling the native language ‘Indian’. It was like calling The Chinese language Chinese and not Mandarin. I am not saying the author hasn’t done research because it is obvious she has but some of them stick out for me.So for the record I think they were speaking Hindi, which is the predominant language spoken in India.

I am not saying that this is not a good book. I usually rate them depending on how much I enjoyed reading them. This story was not to my tastes as I like to read a light romance. The setting and the story was slightly heavy for me. It may be what some reader like but personally I like romances with a bit of humour in them which it was lacking.

I would recommend it to anyone who likes historical romances and wants something different from the Regency setting.

ARC provided by NetGalley.

Dark Needs at Night's Edge (Immortals After Dark, #5) by Kresley Cole

My rating: 4.5 out of 5
This book is the story of the fourth Wroth brother who falls in love with a ghost.Yep, that's right a ghost. I was very intrigued from the start as how will Cole give a ghost and a crazy vampire their HEA but she does not disappoint. The start of the story can be deemed as cute and sweet. The characters interesting enough to keep reading. I have to tell you I really liked Neomi. For being a ballerina I immediately thought her to be a delicate, complaining snob. But she surprised me with her zeal for life and happiness. She took whatever life gave you and tried to make the best of it.Conrad on the other hand was vicious, cruel and simple just crazy. Slowly, he grew on me with his innocence and vulnerability.

It was refreshing that there wasn't any bodice ripping moment as soon as the characters meet but slowly and steadily they fall in love. I loved it that this time around the guy was not a practiced womanizer but an innocent whereas the girl was the all knowing.I also like that Cole didn't just cure Conrad but it was a slow process to get his sanity.

After reading Wicked Deeds on a Winter's night is was thinking of giving up on this series but I am glad I didn't.

Overall, this edition in the Valkyrie series was nice and sweet and has made up my mind to continue with it. And, yes Nucking Futs -Nix is hilarious in this too.

View all my reviews

The Mane Event (Pride, #1) by Shelly Laurenston

My rating: 3 out of 5 stars
The Mane Event basically has two stories with interrelated stories and characters. It is a fun paranormal read with interesting characters. I will not write a summary as many before me have done a adequate job.

The best part of the stories was the humour which lead to make laugh out aloud moments. The couples are cute keeping the book interesting. The story moved fine and the romance was good too.The paranormal aspect of this book was well developed and appropriately used to create the settings. However I would warn you this book goes into the erotica category. There is sex and a lot of it. Luckily it is tastefully written and doesn't feel unnecessary.

This book was interesting enough for me to complete it but I am not completely bowled over by it.The reason could be because I am not a huge fan of erotica. I have not read a lot this category as I do not enjoy it as much as Urban Fantasy. The tension, action and excitement is what draws me which this book seemed to be lacking.

Any paranormal romance reader looking for a sexy read would not be disappointed with The Mane Event.Sadly, I am not sure if I will continue with the series but the wicked humour may bring me back to it.

View all my reviews

Secrets of a Summer Night (Wallflowers, #1) by Lisa Kleypas

My rating:5 out of 5 stars
Smashing!! I was blown away by the complexcity of the charcaters and their dilemas.

I had heard that Derek was Lisa Klepas's most tortured hero and I was not dissappointed. He was tormoneted and complex. I absolutely loved him. I daresay he was a lot better than St.Vincent.

I also liked how the story was over a few months and does not take place within a week.Sara was a strong heroine worthy of having derek.

This has been my favourite Lisa Kleypas book so far with Then came you a close second.

Would defintely recommend to any Lisa Kleypas or the Hathaway's fan. One of the average historical romances. It wasn’t great but I would not grade it has badly. The characters were not that interesting and some of them were paper cut. It does seem like a good start for a series but I will not read the other books until one of them seems really exciting.

It starts off well but half way through the plot I lost interest. All I liked about this book was Gideon, he was funny and intelligent. He found humour in the bizarre situation they were stuck in. It was rather refreshing to have the guy fall for the girl first. He does not faff about his feelings and once he has made up his mind he pursues his goal. It was adorable that he had always found Prudence pretty and could not understand why everyone else kept calling her plain.

I would recommend it to any historical romance fan who likes funny, humorous romance.

View all my reviews

Curse the Dawn (Cassandra Palmer, #4) by Karen Chance

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
What can I say about this book that already hasn’t been said. This edition of Cassie Palmer is funny, action packed and filled with emotional drama. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her new adventures. When this series started it left a lot to be desired but it seems like Karen Chance had been listening to the negative criticism and improving her writing. The story and world keeps improving with each book and now you seem to care about each one of them and have an interest to see them to the end.

The story makes you keep changing your mind who should be Cassie’s HEA and it is a fun ride along. Even if she is making out with two hot men she does not come across as slutty and you can sort of understand her dilemma. One side is her puppy love whereas on the other side she has got someone who keeps giving mixed signals. I hope she realises what Pritkin means to her soon or else I would be very disappointed as I am Team Pritkin all the way.

This book was extremely funny, with hilarious dialogues which had me laughing in public and smothering it with suspicious coughing. There were a few things in the story line which may bother some people like how Tomas is not even mentioned once, time travel paradoxes or perhaps that Pritkin doesn’t seem to jealous of Mircea and so on. However the story, adventure, action and dialogue make up for it. It is a fun, snazzy and light read.

If I have still not managed to convince you to read this series than probably I can’t. This is going straight to my favourite’s shelf and I am starting Hunt the Moon now. Can’t wait.

View all my reviews

Embrace the Night (Cassandra Palmer, #3) by Karen Chance

My rating:5 out of 5 stars
Absolutely loved the book. I know this series started rather slow.I mean action wise it was packed but there was something lacking which nagged me.It seemed like the author was trying to find her footing and I think she has found it.

Cassie is witty clever and interesting. She keeps you entertained. The UF bits are fantastic and more than enough eye candy to keep someone like me happy. There is the obvious love triangle developing which keeps you on your toes.Karen Chance made it extremely difficult to chose sides and I am still not sure if I am firmly Team Pritkin or not. The sex scenes were sizzling hot and the chemistry burns off the pages. Cassie keeps making out with both men within a matter of few hours but you can;t call her easy. This book is abundant in time paradoxes so it should be read with a pinch of salt. Therefore people who like to be technical with what they read should be careful.

I could not stop reading this book. The first half of the book was a emotional roller coaster ride and I couldn't stop reading. The drama and the tension was played out well and I felt sorry for Marc.

What I hated about this book (apart from the horrible name - Faythe) was well...Faythe herself. She was such a child. She was spoilt and downright bratty. She was so well looked after by her brothers and family but still she didn't want any of it. I do understand her point of view that she didn't want to be just looked after because she was a female. Hell, I am a Feminist my self and was cringing at how she was trying to 'assert' her rights of doing whatever she wanted. She was a 23 year old acting like a someone who was sixteen. God, even sixteen year olds have better sense. God know why Marc likes her the way he does. Girl if you don't want him I can have him.

I did not enjoy her point of view either which was whinny at best. I think I author knew that she was making her main lead immature as it is clear in the dialogues of the other characters.Perhaps she had a character development planned for Faythe.God, I hope she does as I plan to at least read till book 4 as my fellow GR friends insist that the later books are very good.

The writing style was fine but after midway it was full of fillers. For example I don't want to know the plan to catch the villain in exact details and what each character thought of it. It would have been fine if it lead to more insight to the character but it didn't.Moreover she seemed to accepted Marc very quickly, like one moment she wanted to run away from him after what she did and the other she is saying how much she loves him without any reflective thoughts in between?

Regardless of all my complaining I did enjoy the first half of the book. I absolutely love her family especially Ethan. It is one of the few times in which I like the side character more than the lead ones.I would love to see more of him in the next books.Ethan and the GR recommendation will keep me interested in this series.

View all my reviews

First Grave on the Right (Charley Davidson # 1) by Darynda Jones

My rating:5 of 5 stars
oWow ...what a debut.I definitely did not feel like the first book of a series.Yes, I know the second book is not due yet but still as we all know the problem with book-series, the first book syndrome. The book was fast, funny, action- packed and yeah romantic too. However I cannot get my head around why it's called a paranormal romantic suspense. It read more like a urban fantasy to me.

I am not going to explain the story as many before me have done it already so I will jump straight on about how I felt about the book.I liked the plot, and the narration. The characters where funny and interesting. You could almost picture them. I would like to know more about Cookie, she was so sweet and best friendy...if thats even a word.I loved the dialogues too. The heroine was funny, sarcastic and intelligent. She was sassy but not in a bitchy way. Books in this genre do have this problem quite often, in order to make their characters sassy they end up making them bitchy and evil. She has a world weary kind of attitude not surprising as she has been through so much but is still pretty much normal under the circumstances.

Moving on to more interesting topic, Male Flesh. Let me assure all the girls out there, you will not be dissappointed. He is drool enticing. Yes, loved him...oh Reyes, can I have him?. I loved everything about him, yes, even his name. I have always been a fan of alpha male guys who are a bit dangerous, so much so that they even the heroine is slightly scared of them. I am talking about the likes of Barrons, Curran, etc. I would not be comparing him with these legends however Reyes did have some potential, dark and dangerous. He was one of the main reasons I picked up the book in the first place. I have to tell you, I had read a few spoilers so I kind of knew what to expect but still the plot was intriguing enough to make me think...Oh God!

Saying all this, I did not want to give it 5 stars more like 4.5 stars but cant score it that way. To be totally honest I was more interested in the plot about Reyes than the other story of the murdered lawyers. Don't get me wrong it was fine but sometimes I was thinking, God can't they just stop discussing this case move to Reyes. But it could be the fangirl speaking. Regardless I liked the book, and would gladly recommend it to fans of Paranormal romance and Urban Fantasy. I have already added the second to my to read list and can't help but think I should have started this book later so could read both of them together.

View all my reviews

Wyoming Sweethearts by Jillian Hart

My ratings:2.5 stars out of 5.
Not my cup of tea. This is one of the few contemporary romance I have read and after reading this I am still not a fan of this genre. It is story of two characters who are both wounded and on the rebound. Both of them have issues which they are currently dealing with and not prepared to have a relationship. However love just happens and no matter how much you try to avoid it you fall deeper and deeper into the trap.

The story overall was fine and I am sure it would appeal to a lot of reader who like clean and pure romance but not me.On a personal level I was missing the fun and the joy of falling in love. The attraction between Eloise and Sean was slow and definite. However there was no tension no banter, no jokes. It simply wasn't fun. I got bored with the inner dialogues and repeated changes in point of view.I mean one paragraph I was reading about Eloise's mind and then next line it's Sean and you have hardly had time to digest the previous bit of information.

That does not stop me from recommending it to other romance readers who like this kind of romances which are clean, character and side character driven.

2.5 Stars. It was very difficult to rate this book as I didn't exactly like it neither did I dislike it.

ARC from NetGalley.

Lord of Scoundrels (Soundrels #3) by Loretta Chase

My rating:5 out of 5 stars.

What a great book! I was delighted to discover this book. Great story and characters.
The heroine Jessica is now my all time favourite historical romance herione. She is feisty, clever and witty. When she goes for something she gives it her all. The hero Dain on the other hand was adorable. I loved the way the writer portrayed him, turning him from a lazy, frivolous Lord into this charming, fascinating and adorable man.

Their interactions were funny and the witty banter was addictive. If you like to bad boys who are fixed by the amazing heroine then this book is for you.I would recommend it for any historical romance fan out there.

Now I am going off to catch other books by this author.

My Dearest Enemy by Connie Brockway

My Rating:5 out of 5 stars.
What a delightful experience. It was good from the beginning to the end, which cannot be said about a lot of books. I did not skim or skip a single line.
They characters were believable while being charming in a historical romance way. I like a story when the protagonists bicker so obviously I loved the interaction between Avery and Lily. Their letters to each other were witty and fun to read. The scenes were Avery reads them to his friends was enjoyable and the romance between them was touching.
This book did not have lot of sex and whatever was there was very lyrical. It is not a bad thing. In fact it was one of the things I liked about it that it was so true. I loved Avery who kept on saying he was a gentleman and forgot to behave like one whenever it suited him. He kept on bellowing that he is a gentleman throughout the book. The way he expressed his felling for Lily at the end was very moving. It was so unlike what we see in regular historical romances when the hero passionately confesses never dying love.

Lily on the other hand was a good match for Avery. I liked her but not as much as I like Avery. Well what more can I say.

I have said everything I could so instead of wasting time, people go and read this book. I would recommend it to anyone who likes witty banter and a touching romance. This one goes straight to my favourites.

Shameless ( The House of Rohan # 4) by Anne Stuart

My Rating: 4 out of 5 stars.
Shameless is a great addition to the Rohan Series by Anne Stuart. It is a typical historical romance however I kept me hugely entertained. This is my first Anne Stuart book and I am delighted to have finally read her. I had heard good things about this author and I am glad I finally took this book up. I am delighted to say I loved it.

The story was great if slightly predictable but isn’t all romance predictable. If you want something that you don’t expect then this is not your cup of tea. The characters are very well etched out and you can feel each one of them. On the surface they might look like regular run of the mill, a rake but not just a rake who has been married twice and looking to get married again. A widow who reforms prostitutes and is a semi-virgin. Put both of them together and sparks fly.

Benedick and Melisande take you on a journey, their bickering and banter is funny whereas the sexual tension is tangeble. The sex scenes were handled with care and the reader was left eager to know what will happen next and how. At no point was I bored while reading it as I find myself skimming through some romances. The side characters were well written and the small story about Emma and Brandon has had me anticipating for another story. I really liked the book and am looking forward to reading more of Anne Stuart’s work. A good historical romance.

ARC provided by NetGalley.

Magic Slays

Magic Slays By Ilona_Andrews
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Oh my God!!!!!!!Loved Loved Loved the book. The wait of nearly a year was worth it.I am still high from reading this action packed book and finding it difficult to come back. I swear my toes are still tingling from the ending.I don't think I have words to describe how much I love this series and Kate and of course Curran*yummy!I wouldn't mind being called babycakes Curran*.They warm up my heart with their witty banter and there weird twisted display of affection. The plot is fast paced and makes you frustrated with anticipation on what is going to happen next.
Like many other readers I was afraid that the magic will not be there and Ilona Andrews wont be able to do it again. They deliver again and again. As typical, the plot starts and throws you right in the middle of all the action and the end action makes you sit up and read with an evil glare. The Pack rules and law make funny situations .The secondary characters are unique and hold on their own.I simple love the gang Julie, Derek, Andrea, Jim, Dolittle. What is there not to love. There were many new characters introduced in this edition and it makes for loads of fun. I am going to start re reading this book as soon as the magic wears off.Magic most certainly Slays.

A Touch of Crimson by Sylvia Day

A Touch of Crimson By Sylvia_Day
4 of 5 stars
Sylvia Day had created a wonderful world where Werewolves, angels, vampires, demon among various other entities abound. All these mythical creatures live on the Earth and are involved in a complex infrastructure where the angels have their own angel-police to punish those who do not obey the Creator. This is where our Hero Adrian comes in.He is the leader of these angel-police who is an angel himself and is here to fulfill his mission and make sure the punished are still in torment. On the outside he is ice cold and robotic, knowing nothing more then his mission until he falls in love with Shadoe the daughter of his arch enemy.Due to complex circumstances they could not together and hence keeps getting reincarnated again and again. However this time Adrian his found his Shadoe in Lindsay and has every intention of being with his eternal love forever.
As far as the story goes it is not completely new, we have seen a few variation of this type of story before but Sylvia Day's world of these creatures give it a different feeling. I starts out quite well and the sexual tension between Adrian and Lindsay is fun to read.Slowly the secrets of both Adrian and Lindsay are revealed keeping you on the edge as to what would be next. The best thing was how none of the characters where black and white , even Lindsay. They all had shades of grey which made it interesting. However I did have some issues with Adrian's character. He was the leader on the Sentinels and of course he was also not supposed to have sex but he does, so how come he never fell from grace. He was a hypocrite which turned me off.Lindsay on the other hand was an innocent trapped in all the politics but I did not feel that sorry for her.My favorite character was Elijah, the trusted friend and bodyguard who was sarcastic and loyal.I will read his story when it comes out in the next book.
Over all it is a promising start to a new paranormal romance series with good world building and enough characters to write a long line of books. This book perhaps suffers slightly as it is the first in the series so the characters themselves could not be deeply explored in this installment. However I believe the forthcoming books should definitely given a chance.
ARC from NetGalley

Hunt the Moon (Cassie Palmer # 5) By Karen Chance

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
Karen Chance, what a fantastic ride you put me on. This book was non stop action, drama, romance; tension...ahh the list goes on. What can I say about this book that already has not been said? I loved it. It was like a rollercoaster ride. I really like Cassie, she doesn’t want to be in this situation but is forced to be and it is entertaining watching her grow, stumble, fall and stand up again. The mystery was great and I liked how folklore was finally put in the mix.
However I do have a few problems, which were not huge but still there, nagging me to write it down. The action scenes were rather long drawn. I mean Chance is great at writing them and all that action is fantastic when you can actually see it in your mind but after a while it gets too much and you sort of tune out. I mean you are reading but nothing is getting in your head.
Secondly, what is wrong with Cassie? She fancies herself to be in love with Mircea who is nothing but a huge manipulative, paedophilic git.Pritkin on the other hand is another story .He is such a well written character and in this edition you get to know more about him. He has had such a horrific past that it brought tears to my eyes. I wanted to rip him out of the Kindle and give the poor man a hug. Whereas Mircea only tries to get sympathy but fails miserably. I hope he falls into a bonfire and burns. Ahh...so after my ranting, Cassie chose Pritkin already or it will drive me nut as you so obviously love him.
I can’t wait for next book. It ended at a cliff-hanger; at least I would like to think so. Karen Chance that was cruel of you to leave me like this without even having a release date for the next book.
